The Balancing Act: Power vs. Heat
When we design a custom lamp, it’s all about the tug-of-war between wattage and length. If you try to cram too much power into a short tube, things get hot. Fast. That puts a massive amount of stress on the quartz, which is a recipe for a short lifespan. To stop that from happening, we carefully tune the gas fill and electrode spacing. It keeps the lamp from burning out when you’re running high-load cycles. Just a heads-up: make sure your ballast matches these voltage requirements. If they aren’t in sync, you’ll deal with flickering or filaments that snap way too soon.
What Goes Into the Build
We use high-purity fused quartz because it actually lets the UV light through. Cheap glass is a nightmare—it blocks the shortwave radiation you need to get your polymers to set. As for the connectors, we stick to the basics like R7s or Sk15. Why? Because they just work. You can slide them right into your existing rigs without having to rebuild your entire setup. We can also add coatings to shift the light spectrum, though keep in mind that usually means you’ll lose a bit of total power.
The Reality of Running These Things
A custom setup gives you exactly the curing speed you want, but high-intensity light creates a lot of heat. Your cooling fans and vents need to be up to the task. If the airflow is weak, the tube will overheat, and your light quality will start to drift. We build these lamps to take a beating in 24/7 production lines.
